The heavy device only differs from its predecessor in terms of its inner values: in addition to ANT+ and Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi connection is now possible, which should provide more stability and faster data throughput.
With the Wahoo app, we managed to get a wifi connection that worked without any problems. On Zwift, however, where Wifi would have been of greater benefit (e.g. for online races), the connection was not available. As a demonstration, in our test there was a brief dropout - atypical in our experience - when using ANT+ on Zwift.
Otherwise, however, the Wahoo Kickr was convincing: a full flywheel mass, levelling, flexible feet, a handle for carrying and a wide control range characterise the device. In principle, the new Kickr smart trainer is as quiet as the other two devices in the test (Zwift Hub and Elite Justo). However, both the characteristic quiet metallic ringing and a low rumble at very high speeds make the Wahoo Smarttrainer acoustically more noticeable. The accuracy of the power measurement was okay, with the device displaying between four and ten watts less than our reference power meter.
Classic with new Wifi capability, internal odometer and easier start-up in ERG mode
+++ Here is the press release from 13 September with further information and details +++
The latest Wahoo Smart Trainers New Kickr WiFi and Kickr Bike WiFi promise an advanced, connected fitness experience thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity, among other things, and support the manufacturer's goal of creating the most comprehensive training ecosystem for athletes.
Ten years after the first Kickr from Wahoo came onto the market, the company is introducing two new devices: The New Kickr WiFi and the Kickr Bike WiFi are now available.
We show the new models and then present the latest features.
The Wahoo New Kickr WiFi is the latest generation of the Kickr indoor trainer launched ten years ago. Simply clip your bike into the trainer and you're ready to start training.
Price: 1299,99 Euro
The Kickr Bike WiFi from Wahoo is a complete training device, a bike is not required. The geometry can be quickly adapted to suit different people. A device like this is therefore ideal for households where more than one person does indoor cycling training.
Price: 3999,99 Euro
Both newly launched Wahoo smart trainers are equipped with new and improved features, including Wi-Fi connectivity. The smart trainers are better connected via Wi-Fi. Who hasn't experienced disconnections in the middle of a virtual bike race or an intensive training session? Wahoo wants to counteract this problem with the new Wi-Fi function. The data is displayed on the screen more than 65 per cent faster than with Bluetooth and ANT+ thanks to the higher data transmission speed. This makes training and eRacing more seamless and precise.
An added bonus of the introduction of Wi-Fi is that the Wahoo customer support team is able to troubleshoot issues in real time, as well as automatic firmware updates.
Wahoo claims to be the world's leading provider of intelligent fitness training with its comprehensive, networked indoor and outdoor training system consisting of physical and digital products.
Training tools and resources are designed to help athletes achieve their individual goals, no matter how or where they train. The simple idea behind the Kickr "a new way to train effectively and at any time indoors or away from roads and paths" triggered a kind of revolution in indoor training.
The launch of the new Wahoo Smart Trainers follows the launch of Wahoo's first streaming service, Wahoo X, which took place following the acquisition of RGT Cycling in April 2022. The aim is to provide athletes with all the tools they need to achieve their goals. It doesn't matter whether they are training indoors or outdoors.
