A helmet is the most important thing when cycling. TOUR tested the new road bike helmet from Abus. How does the Powerdome perform?

Powerdome is the name of the new road bike helmet from Abus, which is also an option as head protection during bike marathons. It is relatively inexpensive, well ventilated thanks to 17 air vents - and also lightweight: in test size M, it weighed just 219 grams on the TOUR scales. You have to be careful with the fit: the helmet made in Italy by the German brand is noticeably narrower around the temples than the older models we are familiar with.

Its headband can be adjusted in height and length using a ratchet and push button, but the intersection between the very thin front strap and the rear strap under the ear cannot. Depending on the setting, this can lead to the chin strap twisting or the rear strap flapping. The Powerdome is available in more than 20 colours and three different versions: Powerdome, Powerdome Ace with colour-matching helmet cap and Powerdome Mips including visibility system.
