Castelli, Soudal Quick-Step, AG Insurance Soudal and the Italian start-up RAGAZ are jointly developing an airbag system to protect the spine. The system weighs about as much as two energy gels and deploys in 200 milliseconds. The technology can be integrated into cycling clothing, is rechargeable and can be removed for washing. Both teams are testing the prototypes in training and competition.
