The New Canyon Grail is a dedicated race gravel bike – aerodynamic, lightweight and designed for speed. Canyon has teamed up with Cyclite, a specialist in the field, to develop bags that integrate seamlessly with the bike: a frame bag, called the Midloader, and a top tube bag. The bags are designed exclusively for the Grail, with the frame bag tailored to each of the seven frame sizes. Anyone buying the new Grail can configure the bags directly during the ordering process.
Conclusions following practical testing
Our editor, Jan Timmermann, was able to try out the new Try out the Cyclite bags on the new Canyon Grail now and was immediately won over by the clean look of the bags. The aerodynamic parts fit like a glove. Nothing wobbles, even when standing on the pedals! The only downside: depending on the cycling shorts, they kept catching on the little plastic tabs – which make the finish where the bag meets the frame look so neat – during the test. Ouch!
An overview of the bags
The midloader is situated within the frame triangle. Side flaps close the gaps between the bag and the frame to create a particularly aerodynamic connection between the two. Added to this is a specially developed, ultra-flat zip with an Aeroslider – a streamlined slider designed to reduce air resistance. The result: the bag looks as though it’s part of the frame. And in size M, it weighs just 100 grams. It can be configured for €119.99 when purchasing the Canyon Grail.
The push-to-release system allows the bag to be attached to or removed from the frame in a matter of seconds. It is even conceivable to swap the bag entirely during a race – contents and all. Inside, separate compartments keep things tidy, whilst a protected cable passage reliably supplies the sat-nav with power from a power bank on particularly long rides.
The Top Tube Bag costs 69.99 euros. It fits snugly behind the stem, attached to the Grail’s own mounting points on the top tube, and is designed to provide quick access to gels, energy bars and small items. Both bags are available in Light Grey and are designed to match the Grail’s styling.
