New bags for your cycling gear: the Gear models from Thule’s Chasm range keep your sports kit organised, protected from the weather and easily accessible. Sturdy materials, a well-designed interior and a construction that allows the bags to be folded away to save space place them somewhere between classic travel bags and sturdy transport boxes. Available in 30, 55 and 80-litre sizes.

‘Only a genius can master chaos,’ as the saying goes. Most people, however, appreciate at least a certain degree of order. When cycling kit, gear and tools are strewn haphazardly about the car, frustration can set in before the ride has even begun. With the new Chasm Gear Haulers Thule has come up with an exciting concept: bags that can be used as flexible carry-bags. The key feature here is the semi-rigid construction, which retains its shape even when empty.

Robust hybrid design for versatile use

This makes packing much easier and ensures that your kit remains well-organised at all times. Whilst rigid plastic boxes (such as the equally practical Euroboxes) always have to be precisely tailored to the available space in the vehicle, the outer walls of the Gear Hauler bags are flexible enough to adapt to the space in the vehicle or boot. Stuff, squeeze, push – you can still fit the Gear Hauler into the boot even when space is already tight.

Quick access thanks to the large opening

A key feature is the spacious lid design. The zipped lid opens wide and can even be partially secured, ensuring quick and easy access to the contents. Inside, adjustable dividers and a simple compartmentalised layout ensure everything stays organised. This allows different types of gear to be kept separate – such as wet clothes, tools or camping equipment.

The bags are clearly designed for outdoor use. Durable materials with a water-repellent coating reliably protect the contents from moisture and dirt. Another feature: the moulded, waterproof base either keeps moisture out or contains dirty gear inside – for example, after a wet day on the trail or when camping.

Three sizes for different applications

The new series comprises a total of three volume classes, covering a range of different application scenarios:

All models are based on the same fundamental principles of structure, weather resistance and ease of access.

Flexible handling and sustainable materials

The bags offer several carrying options – such as side handles or top handles for carrying with one or two hands. Thule also uses recycled materials: the outer fabric, straps and lining are made entirely from recycled fibres.

Editor’s conclusion

With the new Chasm Gear Haulers Thule bridges the gap between a soft duffel bag and a rigid carry case. The combination of structure, easy access and weatherproof design feels practical and well thought-out. For cyclists, campers and outdoor sports enthusiasts in particular – who regularly travel with a lot of kit – this concept can be a useful addition to help maintain structure and organisation. As is typical for Thule, the prices are set quite high. However, the high-quality workmanship and practical details clearly set the Chasm series apart from a basic transport box solution.
