The Tour of Scandinavia emerged from the Ladies Tour of Norway, which was extended by two days for the 2022 season and also includes stages in Sweden and Denmark - at least so far.
This year, the Tour of Scandinavia has been shortened from six to five stages. The reason for this is the increased costs and the lack of funding in Sweden, according to a press release from the organisers. The second stage of the race in Sweden from Tanum Strand to Strømstad has been cancelled.

The first stage of this year's Tour of Scandinavia leads to areas that are familiar to anyone who has followed the Ladies Tour of Norway from the beginning. Mysen (Indre Østfold municipality) last hosted a finish in 2022 and is this year's host of the "Grand Depart" of the race. Halden is the town where it all began nine years ago and where the last stage of the race took place until this year. This time the tables will be turned - an exciting finale is being prepared for stage 1, where the riders will also climb Fredriksten Fortress on the local circuit. The finish area is located at Kongens brygge in the city centre - as always.

Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig won this stage as a soloist, laying the foundations for her overall victory in last year's Tour of Scandinavia. However, this year's stage has changed slightly compared to last year. The start is still in Vikersund and the stage leads through the municipalities of Modum, Sigdal and Krødsherad. The last part of this year's mountain stage leads through Eggedal in the municipality of Sigdal. The summit of the decisive climb to Norefjell is therefore slightly further away from the finish than last year. The last five kilometres of the stage are easier. As last year, the finish is located at Norefjell Ski & Spa.

The third stage of the Tour of Scandinavia is a completely new stage this year with new host communities. The stage starts near the Kongsberg waterfall. The first part down into the Lågen valley is relatively easy before the route climbs via Vindfjell and Siljan up to Porsgrunn. The route passes the outskirts of Skien and the centre of Porsgrunn before heading to the coast of Vestfold via Helgeroa and Stavern. The finale in Larvik is relatively demanding with a climb in the last 1.4 kilometres. The finish of stage 4 will be relatively early due to the transfer to Denmark.

The final stage of this year's Tour of Scandinavia begins in idyllic Middelfart on Fyn. After a small loop through the municipality, the riders pass the old Lillebælt Bridge before travelling to Kolding. The route passes the 750-year-old Kolding House before heading south again towards Haderslev on the same roads as last year's Tour de France. In Haderslev there are three laps of a 7.5 kilometre circuit to complete. The finish area is located on an approx. 800 metre long climb.
The Tour of Scandinavia can be followed on television on Eurosport 1. A live stream is also available on Discovery+ and GCN+ (both via paid subscription).
