The start of the Vuelta Femenina 2025 will take place in the Catalan metropolis of Barcelona on 4 May. No details were given about the route of stage 1, nor what the rest of the route of the women's Tour of Spain will look like this year. An official date for the presentation was not announced by the organiser Unipublic, only that "all route details will be revealed in the coming weeks".
Apart from the starting location, only the date has been finalised so far: from 4 to 10 May The women's peloton will face a total of seven stages to find a successor to last year's winner Demi Vollering, who won the 10th edition of the Vuelta.
The race first took place in 2015 as a one-day event as "La Madrid Challenge by La Vuelta" as part of the men's final stage and has since steadily developed into one of the most important races in women's cycling. In 2024, there were eight stages for the first time - one more than this year.
The start of the men's Tour of Spain was first held in Barcelona in 2023. Back then, a team time trial was on the programme to kick things off. Pouring rain and the onset of darkness made for borderline conditions in the coastal city. Two years later, the men's Vuelta begins in Italy for the first time, in Turin to be precise, and ends in Madrid. The Complete route was already presented on 19 December 2024. Barcelona will also host the Grand Depart of the Men's Tour de France 2026 organise.
