As expected, the 122 kilometre long 3rd flat stage ended with a bunch sprint in Melgar de Fernamental. Although a breakaway group dominated the race for a long time, it was caught shortly before the finish thanks to the chasing work of the SD Worx - Protime team. The team then launched a perfect lead-out for their sprinter Lorena Wiebes, who won the bunch sprint by a clear margin.
SD Worx - Protime took an offensive approach to the sprint: first, overall leader Demi Vollering set the pace and then handed over to Femke Gerritse. The latter was at the front of the field and took the lead out for Lorena Wiebes. When she stepped out of her rider's slipstream and launched her attack, no rider was able to follow. A gap quickly opened up between Wiebes and the other sprinters, giving her a commanding win. After Demi Vollering's victory the day before, this is the second win in a row for the SD Worx - Protime team. Shortly before the sprint final, there was a serious crash in the peloton involving numerous riders. Meanwhile, Demi Vollering remains the overall leader in the overall standings.
On the stage from Roa de Duero to Melgar de Fernamental, it took a long time for a clear leading group to form. Beatrice Pozzobon (Bepink-Bongioanni) was the first rider to briefly break away. A short time later, however, she was dropped again. With 77 kilometres to go, the time had come: Eva van Agt (Visma | Lease a Bike), Sara Martin (Movistar) and Antri Christoforou (Roland) broke away.
Their lead increased to a maximum of two minutes, in the peloton the SD Worx - Protime team was out to control the race for their captain and overall leader Demi Vollering. Neve Bradbury (Canyon//SRAM Racing) and Simone Boilard (Uno-X Mobility) then attacked in the peloton and caught up with the leading trio.
Christoforou then dropped back 36 kilometres before the finish, leaving only four riders at the front. A little later, the breakaway's lead was reduced to less than a minute - also because the UAE Team ADQ supported the chase.
With 3 kilometres to go, the breakaway was caught and the peloton was complete again. Shortly afterwards, there was a serious crash in which numerous riders fell. Because the speeds were high, many riders suffered injuries. The front of the peloton escaped unscathed, leading to a bunch sprint. This was won by Lorena Wiebes ahead of Clara Copponi.
