The category of off-road marathon bikes is growing steadily. The new models, generally referred to as all-road bikes, are intended to free classic endurance racers from their somewhat dusty reputation and bring better sales figures for bike manufacturers. Schwalbe is now responding to this development by launching the Pro One Allroad, a tyre that can be used both on asphalt and on light terrain.
The new tyre replaces the G-One Speed, as Schwalbe announces, and is technologically based on a tyre that was tried and tested at Paris-Roubaix: the S One. Accordingly, the manufacturer from Reichshof is positioning the Pro One Allroad as a tyre "for every challenge, whether spring classics in the rain or long endurance rides on partly unpaved roads". The 30 and 35 millimetre versions are suitable for use on road bikes, while the 40 millimetre version can be used to make a gravel bike more roadworthy or faster. The RRP is 74.90 euros.
To ensure that the Pro One Allroad can withstand adverse conditions such as cobblestones, Schwalbe has reinforced the sidewall. Three layers are intended to provide improved puncture and cut protection. In addition, a puncture protection belt, known as V-Guard by Schwalbe, under the tread increases puncture protection. A special rubber compound optimised for use in wet conditions rounds off the tread as an all-road tyre. Despite the characteristic design, the Reichshofer company promises a rolling resistance that "ambitious riders expect".
As a so-called tubeless-ready tyre, the new Schwalbe can be ridden both with and without a tube. According to the manufacturer, the Pro One Allroad is also compatible with hookless rims, which makes it ideal for use with modern wheel concepts. As with the new gravel tyres, natural rubber and recycled carbon black from the company's own tyre recycling programme are used in production. The rubber specialist emphasises that the sustainable components have no effect on the performance of the tyre.
