On 1 April, the world gets creative and plays all kinds of tricks on us. The bicycle industry has also come up with a few ideas to surprise us on April Fools' Day.

Topics in this article

In many countries, it is customary to play April Fool's jokes. There are various theories about the origin of this tradition, but we won't go into that in this article. Instead, we want to give an insight into the creative side of the bicycle industry.

Sticker set from Rose

Rose recently presented the Backroad FF, a race gravel bike. However, a small mistake was made - the design team forgot to attach the typical decals to the down tube. But don't worry, they realised the mistake and now offer retrofit decals. And the best thing about it is that customised design is currently in vogue! In addition to the brand logo, there are also other stickers that can be placed on the frame as desired. This means that every rider can personalise their bike.

Garmin Super Charger: Charging the body battery

Garmin's sports and fitness watches not only offer the option of tracking activities, but also provide information about the "state of charge of the body" - the body battery. If this is empty or only recharges slowly during rest periods, this can be an indication that the body needs a break. However, breaks are not necessarily popular with cyclists. But Garmin wouldn't be Garmin if they didn't have a solution to this problem up their sleeve. On 1 April, the Garmin Super Charger was introduced - a device that is reminiscent of the charging clips on old Garmin watches and is simply attached to the finger, similar to a device for measuring oxygen saturation in the blood.

Giant arse rocket

Bikepacking saddlebags normally have a capacity of 11 or 16 litres, which is sufficient for most adventures. However, there are situations where you need more space. For this reason, the renowned bag manufacturer Ortlieb has developed the "Arschrakete XXL". With a larger capacity, it offers enough space for additional items such as a duvet, a cuddly toy and a pillow. It is important to note that this bag cannot be used on small bikes as it will drag on the rear wheel. With the Arschrakete XXL, however, nothing stands in the way of a comfortable glamping-style bikepacking adventure.

Mont Ventoux becomes a gravel mountain - no more tarmac

Have you always dreamed of climbing Mont Ventoux on a gravel bike? The Band of Climbers brand has now come up with the perfect solution. Instead of conventional tarmac, the surface of all three ascents of the famous mountain has been resurfaced with high-quality premium gravel. The road builders have thus jumped on the current gravel trend and offer a unique riding experience.

Gravel Spray on

We have the Basic Quick Gravel presented and tested. This is a world first, where dirt is simply sprayed onto the bike. Perfect for anyone who has little time for their adventures or gets lost in route planning and then prefers to train indoors with Zwift & Co. The spray consists of various components and produces a deceptively realistic result. What is particularly practical is that the dirt sticks for a long time and does not crumble off. It is also odourless.

Bike parks for road cyclists

Bike parks are known for being fun and offer an ideal environment for training riding skills. Finally, there is now a road bike park in Hamburg, which until now has mainly been home to mountain bike parks. Until now, road bike enthusiasts have had no opportunity to improve their technique in a safe environment. The special thing about this new park is that it mimics the natural environment of road cycling - with cars, traffic lights, junctions and even poor road conditions. This means that road cyclists can now optimise their technique.

Long gone are the days when we had no idea what was hidden inside a bicycle frame. The design of this bike reminds us of the Nintendo Gameboy Classic transparent and thus appeals to a large target group. Retro fans and also Generation Y, the millennials who fall into the era of the Gameboy Classic.

Aero is everything

We stumbled across two aerodynamic accessories.

1. aero lube from Dynamic Bike Care

Dynamic Bike Care has asked itself why no focus has been placed on aerodynamics in the development of chain oil to date. To close this gap, the company is now planning to launch a new, aerodynamically optimised chain oil. The launch date for this innovative product is 1 April 2024.

2. aerodynamics even before the ride

Silca has subjected its air pumps to intensive testing in the wind tunnel. The result is impressive: the SuperPista Digital has proven to be the fastest pump. For all aero fans who want to get the most out of their bike, this pump is an absolute must-have.

DT Swiss Gravel Grinder

Cycling and coffee go hand in hand, like two perfectly harmonising partners. DT Swiss has come up with something special and seamlessly integrated the grinding process into cycling. In collaboration with Cocuma Caffee, coffee dreams are now coming true. No more fiddling with a hand grinder - simply place the beans in the hub, take a spin on the gravel bike and the coffee is perfectly ground and ready to be prepared. A pleasure for all the senses!

It's good too, I can't decide

I was disappointed that I missed Wahoo's April Fool's joke and don't have an Elemnt Roam. Everyone who switched on their sat nav was affected. I would have loved to see what it looked like in real life. Unfortunately the reel video can't be embedded, but you can watch it directly at @wahoofitnessofficial on Instagram.
