Road cycling is the ideal sport for me to stay fit and relax. The best way to do this is on quiet roads away from traffic. I occasionally take part in RTFs or marathons, but the focus is on arriving and experiencing. Times and placings are secondary.
For me, cycling is first and foremost racing. I love the challenge for my body and mind when I'm cycling fast. Everyman race or epic mountain marathons. I also push myself to my limits and enjoy competing with like-minded people.
For me, riding a road bike is first and foremost an experience of nature and relaxation. That's why I ride more and more often on off-road tyres or with a cross bike or Gravelbike away from tarmac roads to discover new paths and get closer to nature.
The interest in E-road bikes is decreasing rather than increasing among the survey participants.
52% of participants in the TOUR reader survey see this as the attraction of travelling with the Gravelbike to experience nature and off-road riding fun away from road traffic and without the pressure to perform, 49% therefore see it as the perfect complement to road cycling. 65% ride on asphalt and unpaved surfaces in roughly equal measure. The ideal tyre width for this is considered by 73% of participants to be 33-40 millimetres.
"Sustainable and environmentally friendly production should be a matter of course these days", say 70% in the TOUR reader survey.
"I am prepared to spend more money on an environmentally friendly product than on an equally good one of unclear origin or manufacture," say 50%.
77% of the bikes of TOUR readers are equipped with Shimano components (Campagnolo 10%, SRAM 13%), the tyres on 84% of the bikes are already wider than 25 millimetres.
A good quarter (27%) ride tubeless tyres and 47% already have disc brakes. In terms of frame material, carbon clearly predominates with 71%. (aluminium 24%, steel 4%). Titanium remains a matter for enthusiasts (1%).
Around 50% of participants in the TOUR reader survey want to buy a new road bike within the next 12 months. The new bike may cost an average of 5207 euros, 59% of participants want to spend more than 4000 euros. The clear favourite for the desired equipment is Shimano's Ultegra Di2.
