The Tour de Romandie Feminin 2024 kicked off with 133.8 kilometres from La Grand Beroche to Lausanne, where a short final climb awaited at the end. In the end, it came down to a sprint from a thinned-out peloton, which Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) won ahead of world champion Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx - Protim) and the German Liane Lippert (Movistar).
In the final, the SD Worx - Protime team dominated the action. Demi Vollering pulled Kopecky into the sprint. Lurking behind her was Balsamo, who passed the Belgian a few metres before the finish. Lippert followed a few metres behind in third place.
"When I saw Kopecky attacking in the last 400 metres, I closed my eyes and kept going all the way to the finish," said the winner from Italy.
The Tour de Romandie Feminin 2024 is part of the UCI Women's World Tour, the premier league of women's cycling, and runs until Sunday over a total of three stages. On Saturday, the race continues over 101.9 kilometres between Chippis and Vercorin, where a tough mountain finish awaits the riders.
