Alongside the Tour de Suisse, the Romandie is the only race on the World Tour calendar on Swiss soil. First held in 1947, the tour has been on the cycling calendar every year - except for 2020, when the race was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Last year's event was won by Aleksandr Vlasov in the service of Bora-Hansgrohe . However, the Russian will not be able to defend his title. He is riding the Giro d'Italia this year, so the race doesn't fit into his schedule. Bora, on the other hand, will be fighting for the podium with Sergio Higuita.
Klöden the only German winner of the Tour de Romandie From a German perspective, however, the Tour de Romandie has not been the best place so far, although Simon Geschke's third place in the overall standings (Cofidis ) suggests otherwise. However, only two other riders from Germany made it onto the podium before the Berliner: Tony Martin finished second in 2011. Three years earlier, Andreas Klöden was the only German winner. The Irishman Stephen Roche has the most overall victories to his name. He won the race three times in the 1980s.

However, the Tour de Romandie feminin does not take place at the same time as the men's event, but will be held from 15 to 17 September this year. The first female winner was Asleigh Moolman.
