The defending champion lives up to her role as favourite at the Tour de France Femmes 2024 on day two. With an outstanding time trial on stage 3, Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx - Protime) not only secured the stage win, but also took the yellow jersey.
On the 6.3 kilometre individual time trial course across Rotterdam, Vollering took five seconds off second-placed Chloe Dygert (Canyon//SRAM Racing), with Loes Adegeest (FDJ-Suez) in third, 17 hundredths slower than Dygert.
Elena Pirrone (Roland) set the first target time of 7:44 minutes, but Loes Adegeest (FDJ-Suez) was soon well below this. In the end, the 28-year-old Dutchwoman finished third. Olympic time trial champion Grace Brown (FDJ-Suez), on the other hand, was unable to get involved in the battle for victory. A defect thwarted her plans. Adegeest's time was a tough challenge for many riders, including the highly-rated Ellen van Dijk (Lidl-Trek) and Kristen Faulkner (EF-Oatly-Cannondale), who were one second off the pace.
Only Chloe Dygert (Canyon//SRAM Racing) managed to beat Adegeest's time by 17 hundredths. But the joy of the US-American in the service of the German team Canyon//SRAM Racing did not last long. Because then came Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx - Protime). The defending champion distanced Dygert by five seconds. In terms of the overall standings, she took 30 seconds off other favourites such as Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM Racing), while Gaia Realini (Lidl-Trek) took 43 seconds. Juliette Labous (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) was the closest to keeping within striking distance, just 15 seconds behind Vollering.
From a German perspective, Franziska Koch (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) was the best finisher in 15th place (+0:15). Liane Lippert (Movistar) lost 25 seconds to finish 31st.
