Stage number 11 of the Vuelta a Espana 2024 continues in the north-west, not far from Santiago de Compostela in Padron. This is a large circuit that starts and finishes at the Campus Tecnologico Cortizo in Padron. There are always tough climbs on the stage. For example, the Puerto San Xusto is climbed in the first third of the race, the Puerto Aguasantas is crossed twice afterwards, and shortly before the finish the Puerto Cruxeiras - a 3rd category climb - is tackled.
The stage finale is heralded by Puerto Cruxeiras. This is located 7.9 kilometres before the finish and stretches over 2.9 kilometres. With an average gradient of 8.9 per cent, it is the steepest climb of the day. After the subsequent descent, the route continues on flat terrain towards the finish line, which is crossed after 166.4 kilometres.
The stage profile cries out for a breakaway victory. A powerful breakaway group could form as early as the first small hills of the stage - many one-day specialists are likely to have this day marked in red in their calendars. On the other hand, the stage profile is likely to be too hilly for the peloton to keep the day's leading group fully under control.
The final and steep Puerto Cruxeiras climb could decide the day's victory. If a rider from the breakaway group can break away there, it will probably mean the stage win on the 11th stage of the Vuelta a Espana 2024. If a small group makes it over the final climb together, there could also be a sprint from this group.
The neutral start will take place at 13:30. Around 14 minutes later, kilometre 0 should be reached. The finish is expected at 17:21 at an average speed of 46 km/h, 17:30 at 44 km/h and 17:41 at 42 km/h.
