After the well-known manufacturers of floor pumps and mini pumps have so far held back on the trend towards battery-operated small compressors, accessories specialist Topeak is now launching the E-Booster Digital battery-operated mini compressor.

Other well-known manufacturers of mini or floor pumps in the bike industry, such as Lezyne and SKS, were also not represented in this segment - or have only recently been. Manufacturer Topeak announced its small compressor at Eurobike 2024 and plans to launch a battery-powered small compressor on the market next spring. We have now been given the opportunity to test this before the start of the 2025 season. This device segment has so far been dominated by unknown, sometimes nameless manufacturers from China who use online department stores such as Amazon and Co. as a marketplace. The best-known competitors that we have already been able to test are the two AS 2 Pro models from Cycplus and the nanoFumpa from Fumpa.

After unpacking the small Topeak compressor, our first impression is positive: its design with its boiler-like pump head is unique and has a correspondingly recognisable value. The fist-sized device weighs in at 210 grams and, with its white silicone protective cover, is easy to hold; the valve head can be switched between Presta and Schrader valve with a slide switch at the top. The ten centimetre long tube adapter is very practical and significantly improves handling on the tyre valve; its mouthpiece is compatible with Presta and Schrader valves by simply turning it over, just like the valve head directly on the housing. The display with illuminated digits is easy to read, even in daylight, and the operating logic can be understood by everyone after two or three attempts. Topeak promises a maximum pressure of eight bar and four fillings of five and a half bar with 28 mm tyres on one battery charge. We tested this and managed to inflate six 32 mm tyres to three and a half bar in 55 seconds each with one battery charge and a tolerable level of noise, measuring up to 60 degrees at the top of the valve nozzle, outside the grip zone; we reached a maximum pressure of seven bar.
