Sepp Kuss won the 15th stage of the 2021 Tour de France in Andorra. Beforehand, the Cervélo R5 was tested intensively by Tom Dumoulin and found to be good.
Cervélo has slimmed down the frame considerably compared to the previous model. The size 56 frame is said to weigh 703 grams, the fork now 329 grams, totalling 1032 grams. According to Cervélo, the concept has also changed: Instead of building the frame as stiff as possible for effective uphill riding, the new R5 has been made a little softer again in response to requests from the pros. In addition, tyre clearance has been significantly increased up to 34 millimetres. Brake lines and signalling devices for the gears are fully integrated - Cervélo does not offer a version with mechanical gears.
The Cervélo R5 is available in six sizes: 48, 51, 54, 56, 58 and 61 centimetres
All four equipment variants have 2x12-speed electric shifting: with SRAM's Red eTap AXS and Force eTap AXS as well as Shimano's new Dura Ace 9200 Di2 and Ultegra 8100 Di2.
With the Ultegra and Force equipment, the buyer can choose from two frame colours: Lime/Black and Five Black. The top versions with Red and Dura Ace are only available in Five Black.
Purchase prices were not yet known when the Cervélo road bike was unveiled at the end of September 2021.
Cervélo informs about a voluntary recall of stems in September 2022. This concerns the stems of the Cervélo R5 and Caledonia-5 models of model year 2022, as well as the Cervélo ST31 LT replacement stems. Read all the details here.
