Like her team-mates from CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto, the 2023 Tour stage winner rides the Aeroad CFR from Canyon. Even on the difficult sections towards the end of the tour, each stage had at least 1950 metres of elevation gain. "We don't have the Ultimate with us," said chief mechanic Jochen Lamade when asked by TOUR whether the lightweight model from Koblenz would still be used. The 1.66 metre tall Bauernfeind rides the smallest frame size (2XS) that Canyon offers. Her racing bike with pedals, transponder, start number and bottle cage weighed in at 7.3 kilograms on the TOUR scales.
The rider from Eichstätt tackled the fourth, predominantly flat stage with a comparatively small gear ratio (48/35, 10-36 t.). SRAM only offers a smaller chainring combination, which may have been bolted to the Aeroad in the high mountains. On Saturday, with the mountain finish on the Col de la Madeleine, Bauernfeind faced 3540 metres of climbing.
Aerodynamically optimised Schwalbe tyres were fitted for the photo shoot. The German racing team naturally had the entire range of Reichshof tyres with them. Including a previously unreleased Pro One, which TOUR discovered on Tudor Pro Cycling's racing bikes at the Tour de France. According to a mechanic from the Swiss team, the tyre offers more grip than the current Pro One. The tyre would therefore be particularly advantageous in wet conditions. CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto, on the other hand, uses the tyres in all conditions.
