Evenepoel wins the 14th stage of the Vuelta ahead of Romain Bardet
The Belgian Remco Evenepoel made amends after his collapse the day before and won the 14th stage of the Vuelta a Espana. Meanwhile, there were no changes in the group of classification riders today.

Remco Evenepoel broke away from a breakaway group of over twenty riders together with Romain Bardet. The two rode together at the front of the race for a long time. On the final climb 4 kilometres before the finish, the time trial world champion then pulled away from Bardet and secured his second stage win at this year's Vuelta. Evenepoel thus showed a strong reaction to yesterday's Tourmalet stage, in which he finished more than 27 minutes behind winner Jonas Vingegaard. At the same time, the Belgian stage winner also secured the mountains jersey.

Jumbo-Visma trio hardly challenged

In the peloton, UAE Team Emirates set the pace for a long time in order to attack the podium with Juan Ayuso. However, this plan failed and there were no significant attacks from the classification riders. The peloton of classification riders crossed the finish line more than eight minutes behind Evenepoel. This leaves the three Jumbo-Visma riders Sepp Kuss, Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the overall classification.

Birthday boy Lennard Kämna tried his luck in a larger breakaway group at the start of the race. However, he lost out when Evenepoel and Bardet increased the pace. His team captains Alexandr Vlasov and Cian Uijtdebroeks finished together with the other classification riders.
