Four episodes of the documentary "Jan Ullrich - The Hunted" will look back on Jan Ullrich's career, his successes and his downfalls.
"A lot has been reported about me recently, both positive and negative. Now it's time for me to tell you my story, the whole story of how I went from hunter to hunted. I would like to take you on a journey through my life. With all the turbulence, setbacks and challenges," Jan Ullrich was quoted as saying in the press release. The Rostock-born cyclist had previously refused to make an extensive doping confession. When the documentary will be broadcast on Amazon Prime Video was not mentioned.
25 years ago, Ullrich was the only German to have won the Tour de Francethe most important cycling race in the world, and triggered a cycling boom in Germany. In 2006, the career of the multiple world champion came to an abrupt end after his connection to doping doctor Eufemiano Fuentes became public. He was later banned by the International Court of Arbitration for Sport Cas. After that, Jan Ullrich also made many negative headlines in his private life.
Before the Tour de France this summer, an ARD documentary caused a great stir. However, Ullrich himself did not appear in the documentary, but he had written an open letter on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his Tour triumph. in the Bild newspaper has spoken.
"This tour has also awakened memories for many of you. Many have written to me in the last few weeks, including many with very personal messages: Some have reported that my Tour victory motivated them back then to buy a bike and take up cycling or even cycle racing," the former cycling star wrote in the letter.
Many books have also been written about Jan Ullrich. One of them was recently published by Delius Klasing Verlag. In his work "Ulle" - Jan Ullrich. Geschichte eines tragischen Helden, author Sebastian Moll sheds light on the meteoric rise of the talent of the century, his sporting successes, setbacks, personal dramas and downfalls of the only German Tour de France winner.
