The Women's Cycling Grand Prix Stuttgart & Region is the most important one-day race in the women's cycling calendar on German soil. The Grand Prix takes place in and around Stuttgart. Once again this year, several professional teams will be at the start of the UCI ProSeries race.
In contrast to last year's event, this year's route is almost 6 kilometres longer. The riders head to the eastern side of the Neckar shortly after the start, whereas last year's race took place in the south-west of Stuttgart. This year's event will therefore have a lot of ups and downs until the end, including in Stuttgart, where two laps of 9.2 kilometres each will be ridden. The finish is on Rotebühlplatz, with one more uphill section shortly before the finish line.
There will probably be a breakaway group early on in the day, but this will probably be caught up again early on. The climb at Kochenhof could be the first chance for a strong rider to break away from the peloton just 30 kilometres before the finish. If the decision is not made here, this will either happen on the Hasenbergsteige or there will be a sprint.
With the constant ups and downs, the sprinters' legs are likely to be tired before the finish. The most likely scenario is therefore a successful escape by a rider shortly before the finish, or a sprint out of a group of the strongest riders. Classics specialists definitely have an advantage here, but should not wait too long to attack in order to leave the fast sprinters behind before the final metres.
The starting signal for the professional women will be given in Filderstadt at 12:20 pm, from where 4.5 kilometres of neutralised racing will begin. As last year, SWR will be broadcasting the race live on TV, this time from 14:00 to 15:45. In addition, the SWR livestream can be followed online.
