After winning stage 2, Demi Vollering also won stage 4 of the Vuelta a Burgos 2024. The Dutchwoman attacked on the final climb Alto de Rozavientos. No rider in the peloton was able to follow Vollering, and the breakaway rider Lucinda Brand was also unable to defy the high pace of her compatriot. As a result, Vollering came over the top of the climb as a soloist and left nothing to chance. She finished 51 seconds ahead of Lucinda Brand, with Evita Muzic in third place overall.

Vollering in top form

Demi Vollering continues her winning streak in tours. Most recently she won the Vuelta a Espana and the Tour of the Basque Country in May, and now the Vuelta a Burgos - Spain just seems to suit her. After not having an ideal spring and not being able to win a one-day race, she is now back on the road to success. Her victory at the Tour de France in August also underlines her ambitions in the overall classification.

How the 4th stage of the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas 2024 went

The final 122-kilometre stage from Penaranda de Duero to Canicosa de la Sierra got off to a bumpy start. There were repeated attacks in the peloton and numerous attempts to form a leading group for the day. But the attempt by Selene Colombi (Bepink - Bongioanni) and Eyeru Tesfoam Gebru (Team Komugi - Grand Est) as well as that of a larger group of around 30 riders was unsuccessful, although both groups were able to break away by several hundred metres at times.

SD Worx - Protime with high speed

The SD Worx - Protime team dominated the race in the peloton and was obviously unhappy with the break constellations, which is why it kept closing the gap and dictating the pace. No breakaway group formed for a long time - even the attack by five riders led by Sylvie Swinkels (Roland) and Mirgane Coston (Cofidis) was unsuccessful. With 50 kilometres to go, the peloton was already thinned out and numerous riders dropped out due to the high pace.

Around 40 kilometres from the finish, it was Ana Vitoria Magalhaes (Bepink - Bongioanni) who took the lead and set off solo. In the meantime, she had a lead of more than half a minute. Lucinda Brand (Lidl-Trek) joined the Brazilian 30 kilometres before the finish and from then on they formed a leading duo.

Fire is intercepted by Vollering

With 21 kilometres to go, Magalhaes could no longer keep up with Brand, who then rode solo towards the finish. The Dutchwoman had a lead of around a minute at one point. However, the Dutchwoman lost ground on the Alto de Rozavientos. She was caught by Demi Vollering shortly before the top of the climb, who was able to break away and win the mountain classification.

Vollering was then on and off. She confidently brought her lead to the finish line and not only took the day's victory, but also the overall victory.
