The Tudor Pro Cycling Team is continuing its rapid rise in professional cycling with another milestone. Just two and a half years after its debut in the professional peloton and a few weeks after its first participation in the Tour de France, the Swiss team has announced the construction of a new headquarters in Sursee. Construction work on the facility has already begun. The building will not only serve as a home for the growing team, but will also set new standards in terms of sustainability and fan interaction. With an investment of 18 million Swiss francs (around 19.3 million euros) and a total area of 10,000 square metres on five floors, a multifunctional centre is being built on Zeughausstrasse in Sursee.
The decision to build its own headquarters is based on the rapid growth of the team in recent years. "What started with just 20 riders and 40 employees has now grown into a team of 130 people," explained Swiss cycling legend Fabian Cancellara. Today, the team takes part in the biggest competitions in the world, while at the same time remaining committed to promoting young talent. In order to support this growth and realise the long-term vision, the infrastructure must be expanded accordingly, Cancellara continued.
The town of Sursee plays a key role in this project. Both the municipal council and the authorities of the canton of Lucerne have supported the project from the outset. "We are delighted that this new building, which is dedicated to sport and a healthy lifestyle, is taking shape here in our community," said Sabine Beck-Pflugshaupt, President of the City of Sursee. It is a place that will also help to make Sursee better known in Switzerland and beyond its borders.
Raphael Meyer, CEO of Tudor Pro Cycling, emphasised that the new headquarters will be much more than just a warehouse for bikes and vehicles. "Like many top sports organisations, we believe that a cycling team needs a home - a place where riders, mechanics, coaches and staff can come together to prepare for the demands of the toughest races in the world," explained Meyer.
The building was designed in collaboration with construction company Goldbeck Rhomberg and is intended to be not only functional, but also forward-looking. "Together with Goldbeck Rhomberg, we have developed a pioneering concept that not only fulfils the needs of a professional sports team, but also takes into account the expectations of the fans and the local community," said Meyer. It also sets new standards for ecological sustainability.
A special feature of the new headquarters will be an area open to the public, which will give fans an exclusive look behind the scenes of the team. In keeping with the team's unconventional spirit, ideas for areas that are still in development will also be crowdsourced. Fans and supporters are invited to contribute their creativity and submit suggestions via a form on the team's website.
The completion and opening of the new headquarters is planned for the first half of 2027, when the Tudor Pro Cycling Team will start its fifth season in the professional peloton. With this investment, the team is emphasising its long-term ambition to establish itself as a permanent fixture in international cycling.
