Tour-Sieger Jonas Vingegaard wird in seinem Heimatort gefeiert.
First the capital, then his home town: after a frenetic reception in Copenhagen, Danish Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard was also given a cheering reception in his Jutland home town.

Thousands of people lined the streets of Glyngøre when the 25-year-old professional cyclist from Team Jumbo-Visma drove slowly through the small fishing village with his girlfriend Trine and daughter Frida in the family car. Some people cycled behind the car - with two police officers in the front row.

More than 20000 people want to see Vingegaard

Glyngøre has just under 1400 inhabitants - according to local broadcaster TV2 Nord, more than 20000 people turned out in the village on Thursday to celebrate the winner of the Tour de France to see. At the central ceremony in the town's stadium, Vingegaard thanked the assembled crowd, many of whom were wearing yellow T-shirts or waving red and white Danish flags. Later, a firework display was planned in his honour.

"It was a fantastic reception," Vingegaard had previously told the DR radio station when he first stopped at the village's care centre at his own request. "We are almost neighbours and they are an important part of Glyngøre. And they support me all the time," said the tour winner about the centre's residents.

Frenetic reception in Copenhagen

The Danish capital Copenhagen had given Vingegaard an enthusiastic reception the day before. From the balcony of Copenhagen City Hall, he looked down on a sea of cheering people. Later, the celebrations continued at the Tivoli amusement park.

Vingegaard became the second Dane after Bjarne Riis to win the Tour de France on Sunday. He thus rounded off a Danish-influenced Tour, which began with three stages in Denmark for the first time this year.
