After 147.5 undulating kilometres between Norwood and Uraidla, Javier Romo (Movistar Team) crossed the finish line a few seconds ahead of a small chasing group. The 26-year-old had broken away a few kilometres before the end of the stage after the last climb of the day.
Second place went to Jhonatan Narvaez (UAE Team Emirates - XRG), third place went to Finn Fisher-Black
(Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe). His team-mate Sam Welsford had to relinquish the ochre-coloured overall leader's jersey after two days. The Australian sprinter reached the finish almost 13 minutes behind the day's winner Romo. The best German was Georg Zimmermann (
Intermarché - Wanty) in 21st place, 25 seconds behind.

Friday could see a similar scenario to stage 3, with a small group deciding the victory among themselves. There are 157.2 undulating kilometres between Glenelg and Victor Harbor. The main obstacle is the 1.8 kilometre long and on average 8.4 percent steep Nettle Hill, the crest of which is reached 21.5 kilometres before the finish. If the climb is ridden at a moderate pace, a sprint by a larger peloton cannot be ruled out.
