Elise Chabbey wins the mountain finish in La Tzoumaz.
After the chaotic start to the Tour de Romandie Féminin and the exclusion of several teams, the situation had calmed down again for the mountain top finish on stage 2, and the focus was on the sport. And the numerous Swiss fans at the top of La Tzoumaz in particular were able to rejoice, as one of their own won in Elise Chabbey (FDJ - Suez). Urska Zigart (AG Insurance - Soudal Team), who finished three seconds later, took the overall lead.

Chabbey and Zigart had formed a leading duo together for a long time after they had dropped the third rider in the group, Yara Kastelijn (Fenix-Deceuninck), around four kilometres before the finish. It was the Dutchwoman who had previously made sure that the leading group was sifted out by pushing the pace. However, she kept her gap small for a long time and finished six seconds behind Chabbey in third place. The gaps only widened behind her. Mireia Benito (AG Insurance - Soudal Team) was already 1:02 minutes behind in fourth place, with opening winner Paula Blasi (UAE Team ADQ) needing ten seconds more.

That was not enough to defend the leader's jersey. The 22-year-old Spaniard slipped to fourth place and is now 58 seconds behind Zigart. Chabbey is second, eight seconds behind. "It was clear that Urska would ride for the overall classification," she said at the finish. "But I knew that I would have a good chance against her in a sprint. I felt good throughout the entire stage. It was clear to me that I also had a good chance on the mountain."

How the 2nd stage of the Tour de Romandie Féminin 2025 went

After many kilometres without any movement in the peloton, Claire Steels (Movistar Team) took heart and revived the race with an attack a good 40 kilometres before the finish. Giorgia Vettorello (Roland Le Dévoluy) tried to follow her, but was never able to close the gap. Steels at least scored a few points for the sprint classification. At the foot of the twelve-kilometre final climb to La Tzoumas, however, it was also over for her.

In the first third, a leading group formed around Steffi Häberlin (Team SD Worx - Protime), Erica Magnaldi, Blasi (both UAE Team ADQ), Kastelijn, Chabbey and Zigart. A total of around 15 riders were still together. Kastelijn reduced the group further after 5.5 kilometres, with only Chabbey and Zigart able to follow. However, the 28-year-old had overtaken herself a little and had to pay tribute shortly afterwards. Four kilometres from the end, she lost the rear wheel of her two rivals.

They continued to work together until the last few metres, but Kastelijn couldn't really be distanced and was only a few metres behind. When Chabbey opened the sprint 100 metres before the finish, Zigart had nothing more to add.
