Two days before the start, Jonas Rutsch has been nominated for the 109th Tour de France.
The team EF Education-EasyPost announced that the 24-year-old Hessian is part of the eight-man squad. This increases the number of German Tour starters to nine riders. There have not been so few in the past 20 years. The Tour starts on Friday in Copenhagen with a Individual time trial over 13.2 kilometres.
Rutsch made his debut at the Tour of France last year. Last Sunday, the all-rounder finished fifth in the German championships in Sauerland, and two days earlier he had finished fourth in the time trial.
Rutsch's team is hoping for a good position in the overall classification with the Colombian Rigoberto Uran as well as stage wins from breakaway groups.
