The breakaways have struck again at the Tour de France Femmes 2023. After the solo victory of Ricarda Bauernfeind (Canyon//SRAM Racing) on Thursday, Emma Norsgaard (Movistar Team) won the 6th stage on Friday.
The Dane triumphed after 122.1 kilometres between Albi and Blagnac, just ahead of the sprinters Charlotte Kool (Team dsm-firmenich) and the overall leader Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx).
Together with Agnieszka Skalniak-Sojka (Canyon//SRAM Racing) and Sandra Alonso (Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling), Norsgaard formed a leading group of three for a long time. A few kilometres before the finish, Alonso was initially distanced by her two companions. The peloton came closer and closer, but was unable to catch 24-year-old Emma Norsgaard, who started her sprint early. A mass crash on the last kilometre caused additional confusion in the peloton.
After Liane Lippert's success on stage 2, it was the second stage win for the Movistar team in the 2023 Tour de France for women. Lotte Kopecky successfully defended the yellow jersey. The Belgian even extended her lead slightly thanks to the time bonus at the finish.
The queen stage of the 2023 Tour de France for women is on the programme on Saturday. The 7th stage leads the riders over 89.8 kilometres from Lannemezan to the Col du Tourmalet. One day later, the Tour de France Femmes ends with a 22.6 kilometre long individual time trial around Pau.
