The highlight of the classics season awaited at the weekend: Paris-Roubaix 2025. Tour of Flanders and Milan-San Remo it was the third of a total of five cycling monuments of the year. Also standing Liège-Bastogne-Liège (27.04.) and the Tour of Lombardy (11.10.) is still on the pro riders' calendar. Paris-Roubaix is probably the most prestigious race of the five monuments, the highlight of the one-day races, the Super Bowl of cycling. Thousands of fans make a pilgrimage to the route and line the pavé sections, millions cheer on the ride over the cobblestones in front of the screens. If you weren't able to watch the race on TV or live stream, our Paris-Roubaix live ticker on Saturday for the women and Sunday for the men was the place to be. We reported on Saturday approx. from 14:30 from the hot phase of the Women's race and from the Men on Sunday from 11:25 a.m. in its entirety.
The Paris-Roubaix Femmes avec Zwift, the official name of the women's race, covered a total of 148.5 kilometres on Saturday, 29.2 of which were over cobblestones, the so-called 17 pavé sectors. For the men, there were 30 of them - a total of 55.3 kilometres. The Forest of Arenberg, which is only ridden by the men, is particularly notorious. A 2300 metre long torture course for man and material - a key section every year. This was followed by two more five-star sectors, Mons-en-Pévèle and the Carrefour de l'Arbre, which are also ridden at Paris-Roubaix Femmes avec Zwift.
The cycling world was eagerly awaiting the debut of Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates - XRGThe road world champion and three-time Tour de France winner ventured onto the heavy cobblestones of northern France at a fighting weight of 66 kilograms, which naturally give the more powerfully built riders an advantage. Unlike the Tour of Flanders a week ago, there are no mountains or significant climbs in Paris-Roubaix to decide the outcome of the race. It's much more about sheer power, positioning in the peloton, a passion for the cobbles and the right riding technique. Nevertheless, Pogačar was one of the top favourites due to his outstanding form and the fact that he had already proven at the Tour de France 2022 that he is a master of riding over the pavés. However, whether he can beat absolute pavé specialists like Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin - Deceuninck), Wout van Aert (Team Visma | Lease a Bike), Mads Pedersen (Lidl - Trek) or also Filippo Ganna (INEOS Grenadiers) on the flat roads on the way to the Vélodrome remains to be seen. The Slovenian had better arrive there alone, as he has poor chances against a rider like van der Poel in the sprint, as was shown in Milan-San Remo a few weeks ago.
Van der Poel, meanwhile, was aiming for his third victory in a row at Paris-Roubaix. The Dutchman won last year after an impressive solo ride. With his third triumph in 2025, the 30-year-old is one of eight riders to have won the monument three times. The two Belgians Roger De Vlaeminck and Tom Boonen top the all-time list of winners with four Paris-Roubaix victories each. You can read how van der Poel got within striking distance of the two in our Paris-Roubaix live ticker here on Sunday.
The women's race, on the other hand, is still very young. In its four-year history, Paris-Roubaix Femmes avec Zwift has seen four different winners: Elizabeth Deignan 2021, Elisa Longo Borghini 2022, Alison Jackson 2023 and Lotte Kopecky 2024. last year's winner from the Team SD Worx - Protime was the top favourite in the women's race on Saturday. With another success, she would not only be the record winner of the race, she would also complete the Tour of Flanders double, which she won last Sundayand the "Queen of the Classics". The other top favourites were Elisa Balsamo (Lidl - Trek) and Lorena Wiebes (also Team SD Worx - Protime) started the race. There were also other top riders at the start who were hoping to win the coveted cobblestone trophy: Marianne Vos, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (both Team Visma | Lease a Bike), Ellen van Dijk (Lidl - Trek), Chloé Dygert, Zoe Bäckstedt (both CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto), Alison Jackson, Letizia Borghesi (both EF Education-Oatly), Pfeiffer Georgi (Team Picnic PostNL) and Cat Ferguson (Movistar Team). The fact that Pauline Ferrand-Prévot came out on top in the end was reported here in our Paris-Roubaix live ticker on Saturday. We then covered the race again in detail on TOUR, just like the Men on Sunday, in a Race report summarised.
