Pauline Ferrand Prévot (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) has secured victory in the Paris-Roubaix Femmes. With a solo ride over almost 20 kilometres, the Frenchwoman rode away from the other favourites in the chasing group. This success is also special because Ferrand Prévot's friend, Dylan van Baarle (Team Visma | Lease a Bike), also won the classic in France three years ago. The Liveblog of the women's race here to read again.
Ferrand Prévot was able to catch up with Emma Norsgaard Bjerg (Lidl - Trek) after an attack by the Danish rider and took the sole lead a short time later. As in a time trial, the winner kept the gap to her pursuers at just under a minute and was able to cross the finish line alone, although Ferrand Prévot did not even know whether she would be able to start shortly beforehand.
In the last two days I really wasn't sure if I could start, but then I just turned up to do my best for Marianne Vos - Pauline Ferrand Prévot

Even before the race began, it was clear that the Paris-Roubaix Femmes winner from 2022, Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ), would not be able to start. She crashed at the Tour of Flanders and suffered a concussion. Julie Hendrickx (Lotto Ladies) and Sofie van Rooijen (UAE Team ADQ) cancelled their participation at short notice.
There were several minor crashes in the peloton in the early stages of the race. However, the riders involved were able to continue, with the exception of Marte Berg Edseth (Uno-X Mobility), and were back in the peloton after a short time. The rider from the Uno-X Mobility team had to drop out early after her crash. The first attacks came after kilometre 131 before the finish, but were initially unsuccessful.
The first successful attempt to escape the peloton was made by riders Quinty Ton (Liv AlUla Jayco) and Aurela Nerlo (Winspace Orange Seal), who were able to open up a small gap. The gap then grew to up to 1:25 minutes within a few kilometres. Overall, however, the peloton never gave the breakaway more than 2:50 minutes.
The cobbled sectors delivered what they always promise. Many flat tyres had to be replaced by mechanics as quickly as possible, which is why individual riders had to catch up with the peloton again and again. The infamous sectors also caused the first split in the peloton 76 kilometres before the finish. Meanwhile, the lead of the two leading riders was constantly shrinking due to the cobblestones.
A curse for some - a blessing for others. Ellen van Dijk (Lidl - Trek) used the 16th cobblestone sector to open up a gap to the rest of the peloton. The peloton broke up into small groups a short time later, not least due to wind edges. The front groups formed a large group, while van Dijk extended the duo of leaders. Due to the overall very high pace, there were several crashes in the following kilometres.
The first strong attack came from Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx - Protime) and Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx - Protime) 53 kilometres from the finish, who were able to close the gap to van Dijk within a very short time. The only rider who was initially able to follow this attack was Marianne Vos (Team Visma | Lease a Bike). The four riders Chloé Dygert (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto), Alison Jackson (EF Education-Oatly), Jelena Erić (Movistar Team) and the German Romy Casper (Human Powered Health) were able to catch up with the four leaders a short time later. However, 17 kilometres after this attack, there was another break with the first larger group of chasers.
The last attempt to escape the large leading group was made by Denmark's Emma Norsgaard Bjerg (Lidl - Trek), who was first caught and then overtaken by Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) a short time later. In time trial style, Ferrand-Prévot was able to keep the chasers at bay over the last 20 kilometres and ride solo to the finish.
