Marlen Reusser from Team Movistar has celebrated an impressive victory in stage 1 of the Tour de Suisse Women 2025. After 95.5 kilometres around Gstaad, the Swiss rider beat Demi Vollering from Team FDJ - SUEZ in the final sprint. Both riders had broken away from the peloton after the climb to the Jaun Pass and crossed the finish line with a lead of 1:42 minutes. Third place went to Kasia Niewiadoma from Team CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto out of a three-rider chasing group. The decisive phase of the race began on the Jaun Pass, a first-category climb. Reusser launched an attack shortly after the mountain classification and was able to break away on the following descent. Vollering managed to catch up with the Swiss rider with great effort. The two breakaway riders then worked well together and continuously extended their lead. Over 57 kilometres, they rode what was effectively a pair time trial.

The finale of the stage was extremely exciting. Around 2.2 kilometres before the finish, Reusser tried to break away from her companion with an attack. However, Vollering was able to follow and stayed on Reusser's rear wheel until the finishing straight. Vollering opened the sprint 250 metres before the finish line. At first, it looked as if the Dutchwoman could claim the stage win. However, Reusser proved her strength once again in the final 100 metres and overtook Vollering. With this success, the Swiss rider not only secured the stage win, but also the leader's jersey in the overall standings.
Behind the leading duo, a three-man chasing group fought for third place. In addition to Kasia Niewiadoma, Niamh Fisher-Black and Urška Žigart were also part of this trio. In the end, Niewiadoma prevailed in the sprint and completed the podium.
