On spare wheels: The TotalEnergies team was hit by thieves
Racing bikes were stolen during the Tour de France 2024. The French team TotalEnergies is affected.

Shock for the French team TotalEnergies: the mechanics' lorry was broken into in the car park of the team hotel the night before the 12th stage and thieves stole a total of eleven racing bikes. These included the bikes that should have been at the start on Thursday. Thanks to sufficient replacement bikes, all riders can continue the Tour de France 2024 with a personal racing bike. However, the team had to get new transponders, start numbers and GPS transmitters yesterday morning.

Racing bikes, tools and spare parts stolen

During the night, the team was woken by the truck's alarm system, but by the time the mechanics arrived at the vehicle, the thieves had already disappeared with the loot. In addition to the eleven wheels, tools and spare parts had also disappeared. Due to the targeted and rapid theft, the team assumes that the thieves were professionals. The damage is said to amount to around 150,000 euros.

Enve, the team's bike sponsor, published a detailed description of the racing bikes on Instagram with the instruction to contact Enve if you have any information.

The French team TotalEnergies belongs to the second division of cycling and is at the start of the Tour de France 2024 with a wildcard, i.e. at the invitation of the organiser A.S.O. The team has already won one stage. Anthony Turgis decided the ninth section last Sunday, which led over numerous gravel sectors.
