What, amongst other things, TOUR had already reported on this months ago, It’s now official: Paula Blasi is moving from UAE Team L’IMAD to Movistar Team for the 2027 season. The Spanish stage race specialist has signed a three-year contract with the WorldTeam from her home country and is set to play a key role in the battle for victory in the biggest races on the calendar.
For Movistar, signing the 23-year-old is a real coup. Although Blasi is only in her second season at the highest level, she has already established herself amongst the world’s best. The Catalan currently sits third in the UCI world rankings, behind Demi Vollering and Kasia Niewiadoma.
Blasi made her definitive breakthrough this season. Her greatest successes include overall victory in La Vuelta Femenina, victory in the Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition, and overall victories in the CIC-Tour Féminin des Pyrénées and the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Femenina. She also impressed with a fifth-place finish in the Tour de France Femmes.
Blasi herself attributed the move primarily to her sporting ambitions: “I’m at a point in my career where I needed to take a different step and was looking for a team that believes in me, supports my goals and is just as ambitious as I am.” At the same time, she is looking forward to the new dynamic within the team: “I’ll be able to continue developing, share the leadership role and learn from Marlen. That will be important for my development as an athlete. What’s more, it’s my home team, which makes wearing this jersey even more special.”
Given her role, Blasi is likely to be one of Movistar’s key riders straight away. The team already has established captains in Marlen Reusser and Liane Lippert, but with the reigning Vuelta Femenina champion on board, it now gains another contender for podium places in the major stage races and challenging one-day races. Movistar is thus consistently pursuing its strategy of combining experienced top performers with a strong generation of young riders.
Team principal Sebastián Unzué is equally excited: “We are delighted to finally be able to announce Paula’s signing for the next three years. With her arrival, we are taking another leap forward in quality, which will enable us to compete for victory in the most important races on the calendar. I’d like to thank Paula for her trust in us. We can’t wait to work together.”
For Movistar, this signing means far more than just a high-profile new addition. With Blasi, the Spanish team has secured one of the greatest talents in international women’s cycling and a rider who is already considered one of the world’s strongest stage racers.
