Several sources have confirmed that the Spanish climber will be joining Movistar from the 2027 season. As reported by the Wielerflits website, the 23-year-old is invoking a clause in her contract with UAE Team ADQ – which runs until the end of 2027 – to leave the team after just two years. The transfer fee amounts to 100,000 euros.
A contract awaits Paula Blasi at Movistar that will earn her just under one million euros a year. This sum makes her one of the highest-earning female cyclists in the history of women’s cycling. Movistar had been working on securing her signing since last winter and prevailed over other interested teams. At one point, a move to Lidl-Trek seemed likely, after Blasi was reported to have signed a letter of intent with them.
The Spanish team has a formidable line-up of leading riders for 2027. Alongside Paula Blasi, Marlen Reusser and Liane Lippert are under contract. The British young rider Cat Ferguson rounds off the group of top riders. All four riders have contracts for the coming season, giving Movistar a broad line-up to cope with various race scenarios.
The Catalan rider made her definitive breakthrough onto the world stage in 2026. After finishing third in the Tour Down Under, Paula Blasi went on to Victory in the Amstel Gold Race. The highlight of their season was the Overall victory in La Vuelta Femenina In early May, when she took the leader’s jersey off Anna van der Breggen on the final stage and, to everyone’s surprise, won the major national tour.
Her winning streak continued: Blasi triumphed at Durango Durango, the Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées and the Volta a Catalunya. In total, she has secured seven wins this season. She finished third in La Flèche Wallonne and fifth in Liège–Bastogne–Liège.
The Spanish rider had already shown glimpses of her potential as early as 2025. She became European U23 champion, finished fourth in the Tour de Romandie and sixth in the Tour de l’Avenir. In her first professional season, Paula Blasi claimed four victories, including a WorldTour win in the time trial at the Tour de Romandie Féminin.
Alex Carera, who also represents Tadej Pogačar, made his ambitions for Blasi clear in May. Speaking to The Athletic, when asked about a multi-million contract, he explained: “That’s my goal. Because she is the future star of cycling.”
Blasis’s market value rose rapidly. Within a few months, her successes had made her one of the most sought-after riders in the peloton. Her contract with Movistar is just below the symbolic one-million mark, but it nevertheless represents one of the most significant deals in the history of women’s cycling.
Before her move to Movistar, she is set to make her debut in the Tour de France Femmes with UAE Team ADQ this summer. Despite her great successes in the 2026 season, Paula Blasi has played down expectations. Speaking to the Spanish news agency EFE, she said: “I’ll just be there to help the team.”
UAE Team ADQ had tried to keep the Spanish rider. However, rumours of a possible move persisted throughout the Giro d’Italia. The release clause in her contract ultimately allowed her to leave early. Neither Movistar nor UAE Team ADQ have officially confirmed the transfer as yet, but it is considered a mere formality. It remains to be seen what impact the young Spaniard can have at Movistar, particularly as Marlen Reusser, one of the top riders in the general classification, is already in their ranks. But what do you make of the move?
