The Dutch top sprinter Dylan Groenewegen will play for the Pro Team from the coming season. Unibet Tietema Rockets ride. The team, which rides with a French licence, has officially confirmed the transfer of the six-time Tour de France stage winner. For the 32-year-old Groenewegen, this move means a step back from the WorldTour to the second division of professional cycling. The Dutchman is currently still with the Australian WorldTour team Jayco AlUla where he experienced a disappointing Tour de France. The move came as no surprise, as rumours of a possible transfer were already circulating during the Tour of France. In an interview during the Tour, Groenewegen himself had indicated that he was not allowed to make any official statements about his future until 1 August, which hinted at negotiations with a new team.
Groenewegen has celebrated numerous successes in his career. In addition to his six stage wins in the Tour de France, he has also been successful in other major races. Most recently, he showed good form in preparation for the Tour de France and won two stages at the Tour of Slovenia. In the Tour itself, however, he fell short of expectations and was unable to achieve any notable results.

Unibet Tietema Rockets is a comparatively young team founded by Dutch ex-professional Bas Tietema. Tietema has made a name for himself primarily through his unconventional and entertaining videos at cycling races and is using this fame to drive his cycling project forward. The team has great ambitions and is aiming for promotion to the WorldTour in the long term. By signing an experienced and successful sprinter like Groenewegen, the team is emphasising its goals.
For Groenewegen himself, the switch to Unibet Tietema Rockets is likely to represent a new challenge. As an established WorldTour rider, he will now ride in a team that relies on wildcards to be able to take part in the biggest races. However, the Dutchman has already announced that he would like to compete in the Tour de France once again. In order to achieve this goal, his new team would either have to receive a wildcard for the Tour of France or make the step up to the WorldTour.
The switch to Unibet Tietema Rockets could also mean a personal new beginning for Groenewegen. The sprinter experienced a serious setback in his career in 2020 when he was blamed for a serious crash at the Tour of Poland. During a sprint finish, he had caused his compatriot Fabio Jakobsen to fall with a bump, causing the latter to suffer serious injuries. Groenewegen was subsequently banned for nine months and had to deal with the psychological consequences of the incident even after his return.
