You have to hand it to Dylan Groenewegen: The sprint specialist in the service of Jayco-AlUla doesn't seem to care much about how he looks with the bizarre cycling glasses from sponsor Scicon. The Dutchman wore the model again on the 17th stage, which earned him plenty of comments, especially on social networks. Even the Tour de France posted a video with the caption "I am Batman."
Groenewegen combines his cycling goggles, model Aeroshade, with a special nose cover from the 3D printer. "It protects against the sun and the nose cover is for aerodynamics," says the Dutch road champion. The cost of the so-called "nose cover" is a whopping 350 euros. Together with the goggles worth 200 euros, the Jayco pro is probably wearing one of the most exclusive sun protectors.
Curious: After the UCI had temporarily banned Groenewegen from wearing the "Batman outfit", he was now back in action. "I had to take it off from the UCI. That came as a surprise. I think they saw that I wasn't pedalling and said: 'That's not fair, we have to stop these fast sunglasses'," he joked. Before the start of stage 17, Groenewegen even filmed himself wearing the futuristic model.
Other glasses with a special nose cover are available from Julbo, for example:
