After the rest day, the riders got on their time trial bikes. The route led over 28.6 kilometres from Lucca to Pisa. However, Tuscany showed its rainy side on this stage. The classification riders in particular had to complete the course in difficult conditions. In the end, the stage win went to Daan Hoole (Lidl - Trek), who set the fastest time of 32:20 minutes in drier conditions.

"Unbelievable. I'm so happy and full of emotions. I want to thank so many people, it's just crazy. I was aiming for this day, but I never thought I could win," said Hoole in the winner's interview. This is his first stage win in a Grand Tour.

Second place went to Joshua Tarling (INEOS, +0:07 minutes) ahead of Ethan Hayter (Soudal - Quick-Step, +0:10). Isaac del Toro (UAE Emirates - XRG) defended the pink jersey, even if the Mexican had to accept some time losses.

Primoz Roglic a winner of the stage

The course was predominantly flat with only one short climb in the middle of the race, but with some technical bends. The battle between the classification riders, on the other hand, was characterised in particular by heavy rain showers. At least the conditions were the same for all the Giro favourites.

In the end, Primoz Roglic (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe) felt like the winner among the favourites: The Slovenian crossed the finish line just 1:15 minutes behind the day's winner, while many other riders in the classification lost well over two minutes. Roglic had crashed during the reconnaissance of the course at midday. However, this no longer played a role on the stage. In the overall standings, Roglic climbed from tenth to fifth place and halved his gap to the leader del Toro.

The man in the pink jersey finished 37th in the day's classification, 2:22 minutes behind. At the same time, del Toro lost 48 seconds on his team-mate and pursuer Juan Ayuso, who made the best impression among the favourites alongside Roglic. Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain - Victorious) also put in a respectable performance with a gap of 1:51 minutes.

How the 10th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2025 went

171 riders tackled the time trial between Lucca and Pisa. Alexander Krieger (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) was the first rider to start the race, with Michael Hepburn (Jayco - AlUla) setting the first notable best time a little later with a time of 33:20 minutes. The road conditions were still slightly damp at the start, but subsequently dried out.

Daan Hoole sets the fastest time early on

Ethan Hayter (Soudal - Quick-Step) then beat Hepburn's time by a clear 40 seconds, before he too had to give up the top spot to Daan Hoole (Lidl - Trek) shortly afterwards. With his time of 32:30 minutes, the Dutchman was ten seconds faster than Hayter. And Hoole's time was subsequently beaten by all the other riders.

Joshua Tarling (INEOS) went into the race as the big favourite to win the day. The Brit set a clear best time at the first measuring point after 8.4 kilometres and was 17 seconds faster than Hoole. However, Tarling was unable to match the Dutchman's pace on the other sections of the course. In the end, Tarling was seven seconds off the fastest time.

In the final stage, the weather also played into Hoole's hands - although the 26-year-old might have won the stage without it. With the last 20 riders on the start list, heavy rain set in, which had an impact on the times from then on. As a result, Hoole could be sure of his victory early on.
