After the entire tour has so far managed without long transfers, the plane has to be used again before the last stage. From Venice to Rome. And then back on the bike for the last 125 kilometres of the Giro.
The route is the same as last year. The start is once again in the Esposizione Universale di Roma district, or Eur for short, which is often used as a showcase area for modern construction, before the route leads to the waterfront on the beach of Ostia on the Tyrrhenian Sea. The return route then takes place on the other side of the road, past the start and into the city centre.
In the middle of the Eternal City, there are another 9.5 kilometres of laps on the schedule, eight in total. Past the Collosseum, among other things. It's not completely flat, but the field doesn't cross any hills that anyone should be afraid of.
The finish line is on the Via di San Gregorio. 350 metres of cobblestones must then be mastered in a sprint to celebrate the final victory of the day.
The sprinters are allowed to show themselves one last time. At least if they can catch all the more or less serious attempts by the competition to prevent a bunch sprint. But the probability of this is very high. After all, the last stage will be ridden with a train again, at least from the start of the circuit, but in the end it will all be a big showdown in which the honour goes to the fast men and the pink jersey.
