Everything you need to know about the Bund Deutscher Radfahrer squad and Germany's chances of winning a medal at the 2019 Road World Championships in Harrogate (Yorkshire).

The German Cycling Federation (BDR) is sending 32 riders to the World Championships in Yorkshire, which begin on 22 September. The BDR reckons that the best chances of winning a medal are in the mixed time trial on Sunday 22nd September and in the elite women's time trial - where two riders, Lisa Klein and Lisa Brennauer, will be battling it out for the medal. In the men's race, Tony Martin and Nils Politt will be looking to build on past time trial successes. The tough season for Martin, who had to work hard for Steven Kruijswijk and Primoz Roglic at the Tour and Vuelta, is not a good omen. After all, some of last year's favourites such as Chris Froome and Tom Dumoulin are not at the start, Rohan Dennis is coming back from a long break from racing.

The experienced riders John Degenkolb (Trek - Segafredo) and Marcus Burghardt (Bora-hansgrohe) will lead the eight-man squad in the men's road race on 29 September. Degenkolb, who finished fourth in the 2012 World Championships, has had a rather disappointing Vuelta, but the World Championship course should suit him. The 26-year-old Nikias Arndt (Sunweb), the one year younger sprint star Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) and WorldTour newcomer Jonas Koch (CCC) will contest their first World Championship race. The BDR line-up is completed by Simon Geschke (CCC) and the all-rounders Nils Politt (Katusha - Alpecin) and Jasha Sütterlin (Movistar), who will mainly be in action as speed riders.
