Former Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar has won the eleventh edition of the Canadian one-day Grand Prix Montréal.

With this he shows himself is well prepared for the Road World Championships in around two weeks' time. After 221.4 kilometres on the demanding circuit in Montréal, the 23-year-old Slovenian was able to beat Belgian Wout van Aert and Italian Andrea Bagioli in the sprint of a five-man lead group.

Fourth place went to Brit Adam Yates, who a fortnight ago won the Germany Tour had won. The best German, 36 seconds behind, was Georg Zimmermann from Augsburg in 14th place. The professional cyclists had to conquer more than 4000 metres of altitude on the circuit in Montréal.
