Der Niederländer Fabio Jakobsen hat das EM-Straßenrennen gewonnen.
Fabio Jakobsen from the Netherlands secured the title in the road race at the European Cycling Championships in Munich.

After 207.9 kilometres from Murnau am Staffelsee to Munich, the 25-year-old beat Frenchman Arnaud Démare and Tim Merlier from Belgium in a sprint.

Bad luck for Ackermann

Germany's top sprinter Pascal Ackermann had bad luck when he crashed just 45 kilometres from the finish and slammed into a barrier with full force. The rider from the Palatinate had to end the race prematurely. "Pascal was really hot yesterday and had said: "Tomorrow I will be European champion," said Germany's sporting director Jens Zemke on ARD. According to Zemke, Ackermann did not suffer any serious injuries in the crash. Phil Bauhaus ultimately had to settle for 16th place as the best German.

Jakobsen, who has already won a stage at the Tour de France this year, is the successor to Sonny Colbrelli, who did not compete in the race as part of the European Championships. The Italian, who triumphed at his home race in Trento last year, suffered a cardiac arrest in March at the Tour of Catalonia after a sprint to the finish and only just survived.

Runaways dominate the race for a long time

For a long time, the race was dominated by the Swiss rider Silvan Dillier and the Austrian Lukas Pöstelberger, who broke away from the field after around 20 kilometres. The duo was caught 28 kilometres before the finish in the Bavarian capital.

The women's and men's individual time trial titles will be decided in Munich on Wednesday. The women's road race will take place in a week's time on Sunday.
