Professional cyclist Heinrich Haussler (39) is ending his professional career and will become sporting director of Team Bahrain-Victorious. This was announced by the team.

The Freiburg-based Haussler from Team Bahrain-Victoriouswho held German citizenship until 2010 and went through the Cottbus racing bike school, was found to have changes during his annual cardiological examination in December 2022. After further assessments by specialists in Germany and Italy, it was concluded that continuing his career would be too risky.

2009 the most successful year for Heinrich Haussler

Haussler, the son of a German father and an Australian mother, celebrated his most successful year in 2009. He won a stage of the Tour de France and came second in both the Milan-San Remo and Tour of Flanders classics.

"I started cycling at the age of six and went to Germany when I was 14 because I wanted to become a professional," said Haussler. "The decision to stop has now been taken off my hands and I've had time to look back on my career. I'm happy that I can now take the next step."
