The Trek CheckOUTa gravel bike with racing handlebars and full suspension, led to heated discussions. Is that going too far? Is that still a gravel bike? It is not uncommon for the history of mountain bike development to be beaten down; everything repeats itself. And yet, of course, technologies change. The track, for example available from Liquid Life.

At the same time, there are more and more unsupported bikepacking events such as the Silk Road Mountain Race, where bikes like this one are at the start.

Unique piece from Wunderlich

On the Once again this year, numerous handmade individual pieces were bespoked shown. There were bikes and accessories to discover. To recognise all the details of the frame builders, you have to get very close with the tip of your nose - to the bike, not to the frame builders. One of these bikes won the trade fair award for Best Road Bike: This white beauty from Wunderlich.

The award for the best road bike goes to Wunderlich. With its 30 millimetre wide tyres, the bike weighs just under 8 kilos. Rose Backroad Unsupported

The Rose Backroad is one of the most popular gravel bikes. In 2025, a new edition was presented for the coming season, which also includes a very special model. The Rose Backroad Unsupported (Test) should cover everything the bikepacking heart desires. The Supernova lights fitted as standard are powered by a hub dynamo. A USB-C port on the stem charges the battery or smartphone while riding. Gears are shifted mechanically. Everything on the Backroad Unsupported is neatly mounted and solidly wired. Nothing rattles or wobbles and the operation is self-explanatory. As the Unsupported has a mechanical gearstick, it is in theory independent of power sockets. The frame bag attached with magnets is standard on all carbon models. The Rose Backroad Unsupported is, for example available directly from Rose.

The Cube Nuroad C:62 (Test) is the most popular bike among our online readership. This may be due to the fact that gravel bikes are still very popular, it may be due to the test field - gravel bikes under 2000 euros - or it may be due to the test victory that the bike scored in our test. The bike has left a lasting impression on us and on you. The bike is available from Lucky Bike available.

Last but not least ... Racing bikes of the Tour de France 2025
