To clarify the question of how disc brakes affect aerodynamics, we took two aero racers, both of which were launched in spring 2017, to the GST wind tunnel in Immenstaad on Lake Constance. The Aeroad CF SLX Disc from Canyon and the Specialized Venge ViAS Pro Disc are among the first consistently aerodynamically shaped competition bikes with disc brakes. The version of the Venge with rim brakes is still one of the three fastest road racing bikes that TOUR has ever measured in the wind tunnel (204 watts resistance at 45 km/h; see TOUR 1/2016). The Aeroad with rim brakes came in slightly behind the Venge in the same test with 208 watts in the Aero classification, but took the overall victory because it is equally light, stiff and comfortable to ride.
The current measurement results with disc brakes are clear - and take away another argument from disc sceptics.
