The new Basso Diamante is supposed to be "super fast". The bike's full-bodied name is already a sign of this, as the suffix "SV" stands for "super veloce". To achieve this, the Basso developers have tweaked a few things, and the look of the bike is very different from its predecessor.
The slim fork, which allows for tyres up to 32 millimetres wide, is striking compared to other aero road bikes. According to Basso, the aerodynamically optimised seat clamp is already familiar from its predecessor, the 2019 edition of which was voted "Road Bike of the Year" in the "Competition" category by TOUR readers.
The cables all run inside the handlebar unit and frame. Despite the integration, the stem and handlebars do not form an inseparable unit, but can be (dis)assembled and adjusted individually. This means that the handlebar height can also be adjusted as usual using the spacers supplied. According to Basso, the Diamante SV spacers also improve the damping of the bike.
Unlike the Basso Diamante, the Super Veloce edition is only available with disc brakes. Nevertheless, the customer still has the choice between a mechanical or electronic shifting group. Seven Frame sizes, between 48 and 63are offered, plus three colours to choose from: Matt silver, a play of colours called "Chameleon" and the traditional pastel white with dark blue contours.
According to Basso, even these colours should be beneficial to aerodynamics. The incorporated ceramic nanoparticles are intended to make the paint more compact and stronger, resulting in better aero values compared to the old Diamante SV.
Basso offers a total of six different set-ups for the Diamante SV: The entry-level model is equipped with Campagnolo's Chorus groupset (€7,998), while the two most expensive models are equipped with Shimano's Dura-Ace Di2 (€10,089) and Campagnolo's Super Record EPS (€11,130, all prices based on the version with WTO 45 wheels). The Basso Diamante SV 2021 is also available with mechanical Super Record, Ultegra Di2 and SRAM Force eTap.
