The Swiss Aero expert With the new Gravon Carbon 500, Swiss Side is launching its revised gravel wheelset onto the market. The development focussed on weight reduction while retaining the aerodynamic properties. The system weight has been reduced by 126 grams to 1620 grams for the complete set. The wheel is aimed at the race-orientated Gravel biker. Visually striking, as with the Predecessor the significant curvature of the sidewall of the rim, which is intended to optimise aerodynamics.
The 50 millimetre high CIH (Carbon In-House) rims have an inner rim width of 24 millimetres. Swiss Side relies on a hooked construction that accommodates tyres between 35 and 65 millimetres wide. According to the manufacturer, the S-shaped outer contour is intended to improve aerodynamics. For racing, Swiss Side recommends 40-millimetre tyres, while 45-millimetre tyres are an all-round option.
DT Swiss 350 Spline hubs form the centre of the wheels. The hubs work together with DT Swiss Aerolite Straightpull Aero spokes. This combination of hubs and spokes contributes to the weight reduction compared to the previous model. The straight-pull spokes dispense with the classic spoke bend and run directly from the hub to the rim.
The rim depth of 50 millimetres is based on aerodynamically optimised road wheels. Swiss Side promises stability in crosswinds and fast rolling on paved passages. At the same time, the design should offer the robustness required for gravel on rough surfaces. The Gravon Carbon 500 wheelset costs 1199 euros in the Swiss Side online shop. The recommended retail price is 1439 euros. It is available immediately at www.swissside.com and from specialist dealers.
