According to Vision, the new wheels are more aerodynamically efficient than the models in the Metron SL series. The flatter Metron 45 RS is said to be nine per cent faster, while the Metron 60 RS saves six per cent according to the manufacturer. The improved aerodynamics are mainly due to the wider inner rim width of 23 millimetres and the carbon spokes. The carbon rims are optimised for use with 28 millimetre tyres.
Another effect of the aerodynamically optimised carbon spokes is a lower weight. According to Vision, almost 110 grams can be saved compared to conventional steel spokes. In total, the flatter set weighs 1460 grams, while the version with higher rims weighs 1520 grams.
Both models adopt the hub technology from the SL series, which was recently extended by a further variant. The so-called Power Ratchet System (PRS) with ceramic bearings has 72 engagement points and should ensure faster power transmission. The freehub body has been made lighter thanks to a special milling process.
The voluminous carbon rims with an outer dimension of 31 or 33 millimetres (Metron 45 RS, Metron 60 RS) offer a centre lock mount for the brake discs and are tubeless-ready. According to Vision, the wheels are built entirely by hand. The spoke holes in the rim are not drilled, but moulded during the lamination process. This is intended to increase strength and durability.
The new RS collection will lead the portfolio in future. The Metron 45 RS costs 3109 euros, while the Metron 60 RS costs 3179 euros. For comparison: Vision offers the Silver Edition of the Metron 45 SL and 60 SL for 2189 and 2249 euros respectively.
