The name of the German manufacturer's new carbon wheels should be the programme: The ÆRA, pronounced as era by the ligature, One-K wants to open up a new capital. Among other things, the Palatinate-based company has further developed its patented spoke structure called Fiberspoke. In combination with a new rim profile and high-tech hubs from Non Plus, this has resulted in a set that should weigh just 975 grams with 35-millimetre rims. For the presumably faster version with 50 millimetre rims, One-K quotes a system weight of 1135 grams.
A new feature of the spoke technology are the nipples, which are almost completely integrated into the rim bed. The ÆRA would benefit from this both visually and aerodynamically. In addition, the process can achieve "high structural rigidity combined with very good vibration damping". The spoke structure consists of fibres soaked in resin, which are also used in Formula 1 racing and are formed into a kind of star by a machine. In the TOUR test, we were already able to get an idea of the predecessor system.
The new carbon hooked rims have an inner width of 23 millimetres and are optimised for tyre widths from 30 millimetres. According to the manufacturer, two tread heights (35 and 50 millimetres) will be available for the market launch at the end of February. The approval for a maximum system weight of 120 kilograms is generous. But so is the price: One-K charges 3699 euros for the wheelset, which comes with transport bags, rim tape and valves.
