The Würzburg-based carbon manufacturer Bike Ahead Composites has come up with an exciting wheel: the "Biturbo Gravel Aero Classified" model, specially developed for the Classified Powershift gear hub, is based on the well-known Biturbo Gravel Aero wheel, but has been completely redesigned in the hub area. It is a six-spoke carbon monocoque that is handmade in Germany. With a weight of 578 grams (without Powershift system), the wheel is aimed at weight-conscious gravel bikers who want to benefit from the advantages of Classified technology. The Powershift system enables a gear range similar to that of a double drivetrain, but with just one chainring.
Bike Ahead Biturbo Gravel wheel: Wide rim & aero focus
The new Biturbo Gravel wheel from Bike Ahead is characterised by its aerodynamic design. The rim, spokes and hub star have a coordinated D-shape profile, which is intended to optimise the air flow. The rim has a height of 39.5 millimetres and an inner hookless width of 26 millimetres. According to the manufacturer, this width allows the use of tyres up to 58 millimetres (2.3 inches) wide. The wheel is suitable for use with both inner tubes and tubeless tyres. Bike Ahead specifies a permissible system weight (rider plus luggage) of 95 kilograms.
Customisation for Classified Powershift
The hub shell of the Biturbo Gravel Aero Classified was specially designed for the integration of the Classified Powershift Systems developed. It is made of aluminium and is designed so that the Powershift system can be easily installed. Installation is carried out by official Classified dealers, as the Powershift system is not included with the wheel. The Classified technology enables two gears directly in the hub, which are shifted wirelessly from the handlebars. The shifting impulse is transmitted to the gearbox via a special Bluetooth axle.
Production and processing of the gravel rim
Bike Ahead Composites attaches great importance to high-quality workmanship. The Biturbo wheel for the Classified gear hubs is manufactured by hand and receives a special surface treatment. According to the manufacturer, the quality of workmanship is so high that there is no need for a paint finish. Instead, the wheel has a raw carbon look with a matt sheen. This effect is achieved through an elaborate polishing process, followed by a sealant to protect the carbon from scratches.
Bike Ahead Biturbo Gravel Aero: Availability and prices
The Biturbo Gravel Aero Classified wheels are now available. Bike Ahead offers the wheel as a single rear wheel at a price of 2249.50 euros. Alternatively, it can be purchased as a set with a matching front wheel for 3999 euros. The manufacturer has also announced that further Classified versions, such as the Biturbo Road, will follow shortly.
