Pinarello is further expanding its off-road portfolio and is launching a real niche model with the new Grevil MX: the mix of mountain bike DNA and gravel bike components is intended to show its strengths particularly on demanding terrain. The exotic bike is initially available in an equipment variant for 8,500 euros.

Gravel bike and mountain bike hybrids seem to be a new trend in the cycling world. After Trek with the checkout While well-known manufacturers have already presented the Scale Gravel RC, another high-end brand, Pinarello, is now presenting such a hybrid. Although the nomenclature of the Grevil MX is based on the Italians' racing gravel platform, it is much more similar to a classic hardtail mountain bike. The luxury brand puts the total weight at nine kilograms (size M).

The basis is the carbon frame familiar from the Dogma XC with its asymmetrical rear triangle. For a gravel bike, the steering angle (67.75 degrees) is extremely slack. In combination with the extreme trail (101 millimetres), the Pinarello should handle like a charm on the gravel track, but require a lot of steering effort for fast cornering. Thanks to the long frame, the riding position is extremely sporty. After testing the Dogma XC, our colleagues from our sister magazine BIKE judged that the bike "definitely needs an experienced hand on the handlebars".

  • Weight of complete wheel: 9.0 kilogrammes (size M)

Speaking of which: Pinarello has taken its cue from the road sector for the control unit and has installed a handlebar from its own Most brand, the carbon cockpit is also used on the Dogma X endurance model. With the SRAM Force AXS shift/brake levers and Schwalbe studded tyres, other parts are fitted that are related to road cycling and gravel sports. For the rear derailleur, on the other hand, Pinarello once again reaches into the MTB box with the XX SL Eagle AXS from SRAM. With a 38 chainring and a 10-52 cassette, the drivetrain shows its strengths in difficult and steep terrain. The purple Aero chainring from Polish tuning specialist Garbaruk is a real eye-catcher.

The "Monster Gravel", as a hybrid of mountain bike and gravel bike can also be called, also features a suspension fork from Fox. With a maximum stroke of 100 millimetres, this also takes the fear out of rough trails. The Dogma XC, for example, offers the same suspension travel. The maximum tyre clearance of 50 millimetres is already ex works. The Schwalbe knobbly tyres are mounted on DT Swiss carbon cross-country wheels. According to Pinarello, the Grevil MX can be customised to be even more suitable for off-road riding with a retractable 30.9 mm seat post and a flat bar from Most.

Pinarello Grevil MX: Equipment and prices

The fact that Pinarello only presented one equipment variant to the world public at Velofollies in Kortrijk/Belgium indicates that the Italians still want to form their own opinion of the market opportunities for the new exotic bike. There are four frame sizes to choose from. The paintwork is reminiscent of the new work equipment of the second-class Q36.5 team led by superstar Tom Pidcock. The price is 8500 euros. For comparison: The cheapest Dogma XC costs 7000 euros, the cheapest Grevil F with wireless shifting from SRAM (Rival AXS) and carbon wheels from Most costs 5600 euros.
